Do512/BetterThanTheVan “happy hour” @ Beerland

If you’re old like me and hate staying out late but love free beer, come out to Beerland on Wednesday the 16th for this Do512.com/Better Than The Van/Bandize “happy hour” thing we’re playing. I’m not sure what the occasion is, but the show is free and there will be free Lone Star and I know you like that. The show is early early, and we play at 7:30pm.

SXSW

SXSW is upon us and it is already awesome. A lot of locals complain about all the out-of-towners, but I always have fun this week making a bunch of new friends, hearing new music and getting 3 hours of sleep.

We’ll be spending most of the week checking out other bands, but we do have one show ourselves. Its an unofficial SXSW wrap party/birthday party of sorts on Sunday, the 22nd, at 1906 Studios, located at 3rd & Chicon. Also on the bill are New York’s So So Glos and DJ Ben Blood. The party is free, and your best friend FREE BEER will be there. Things should get started around 7PM. We will be playing some new songs you’ve never heard before. Come out! Bring your friends!

Don’t everybody like the smell of gasoline?

Mine and Nick’s gas got turned off this morning. Its not so much an economic sign of the times as it is the result of poor bill-paying and mail-opening skills. We both swore one of us paid last month, but when Nick called the gas company, the woman on the phone told him the last payment they received was in July. Whoops! One of us* paid them and service will be restored tomorrow, but I must have a beast of a water heater, because I just took a hot shower 12 hours after the whole ordeal.

I was at Rooster Teeth Productions today working on some videos featuring the Barenaked Ladies’ Ed Robertson. I can’t say that I’ve ever heard more than a one or two Barenaked Ladies songs, but the dude is genuinely very cool and funny. And possibly 100% shameless. We’ve been working on a song called ‘Tick Tick’, loosely based on a friends’ dog. It got me thinking about other songs about pets, and the first two that came to mind were The Beatles’ ‘Martha My Dear’ and Nilsson’s ‘Me and my Arrow’. I’m not sure if anyone is reading this, but what are some of your favorite songs about animals?

Starting a new experiment. I’m switching the site over to WordPress in hopes that the “blog” format helps us update more frequently. I have a weird feeling that it might make us update so frequently that you’ll know more about the band than you ever wanted to. I tested this out earlier tonight on another domain I own and Nick and I got into a blog-off. He won, hands down.

We’ve been writing and demo-ing daily and I’m really excited about where this album is heading. I know that sounds like I’m laying on the bullshit real thick, but I mean it.
